Strategic Plans & Brand Audits
Ahhhh, strategy…everyone agrees: the truly sexy part of marketing. But a plan can’t go awry if it doesn’t exist. So, where are we going?

This is admittedly something of a catch-all. It’s copywriting and design, brainstorming and campaign concepts. It’s branding and taglines, business cards and marketing collateral. It’s outdoor signage and web design, digital ads and social media graphics.
Over the years, I’ve played a key role in creative services of all kinds, including rebrands, radio and television spots, email and custom mailers, print and digital advertising, website and storefront design, event set-up and merchandise—the list goes on and on.
Case Study: Cooking Up a Fresh Brand for A Cook in Your Kitchen
When Sarah Cook made the leap from professional violinist to personal chef, all she had was a name: A Cook in Your Kitchen. I worked with her to develop a quick, affordable brand and website that matched the clean, fresh taste of her food. (Plus I lettered the menu boards and got elbow-deep in chimichurri chicken skewering kabobs at her first event.) Read more >>
Let’s think beyond banner ads. (I mean, I’m glad to test and see how banner ads work for you, but if your budget is limited, I’ve some better ideas for how you can get the most out of your money.)
Let’s talk about Google search and social media advertising. Let’s figure out where your audience is, and meet them there. Let’s put a delicious-looking ad on Instagram at 4:30pm, right when they’re wrapping up at the office and about to text their partner about dinner plans. Let’s get a Google Search ad about your climbing gym in front of someone googling “great birthday party ideas.” Let Type 2 Studio set up, monitor, and show you the results of your online advertising while you focus on taking care of your new customers.
Case Study: ClimbStuff.com
See how my approach to online advertising increased ClimbStuff.com’s ROI by almost 600% year-over-year for Google Adwords, Facebook, and Instagram. (I know that sounds ridiculous; I didn’t believe it myself at first. I ran the numbers 3 times just to be sure.) Read more >>
Content, Email & Social Marketing
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase: “Content is king in the internet age.” But not everyone is a writer, and even fewer people are experts in SEO, hashtags, or A/B testing marketing emails. And content covers a lot: blog posts, native advertising, social media posts, email newsletters and promotions, white papers and one-sheets. It’s—a lot.
Let me take care of that for you. The first website I ever started, INDYCOG, grew into Indianapolis’s bicycling advocacy organization within 2 years. The second website I started, Vouched Books, grew to include guerrilla bookstores and reading series in 5 major cities.
I seem to have a knack for this, and that knack now comes backed by over a decade’s worth of experience writing for everyone from a plumbing company to an insurance brokerage. I’d love to write for you.
Case Study: INDYCOG (now Bike Indianapolis)
I’m taking it all the way back to the start. One night back in 2008, I couldn’t sleep. An idea I had for an Indianapolis-focused bicycling blog kept nagging at me. So that night, I wrote out all the copy for the website, along with the first 3 posts. My friend Ben and I launched it in the span of 2 weeks, and within 2 years, we’d gained 1,000s of readers and incorporated as Indy’s first nonprofit bicycling advocacy organization—and we did it with great content. Calligraphy & Lettering Arts
Over the past decade, people have regained an appreciation for “craft.” Our neighborhoods are dotted with craft breweries and distilleries, artisanal food shops, and cafes pulling some serious coffee drinks. Coming of age as a designer in this era, I became fascinated by my own craft: letters drawn by hand.
Anyone can pick a font from a dropdown. But, incorporating custom lettering into your brand, design, or space is a small way you can stand out. Make a statement with a mural of your company’s mission in your office entryway. Give the menu board and signage at your upcoming fundraising dinner a human element. Add a bit of custom goodness to your magazine cover or interior layout. Let’s talk about how I can add that special touch to your brand, storefront, or event.
Case Study: Indy Monthly “Best of Indy” Cover
Every year Indianapolis Monthly Magazine releases their most anticipated “Best of Indy” issue. I worked with Indy Monthly’s design team to create a piece of bold custom lettering to add a sense of “KA-POW” to the cover. As you can see, it went through a couple different styles based on the various cover photos under consideration. Ultimately, we blended old wood cut type with a modern style and plated it in gold.
